01Overview
KJ Notary & Loan Signing Services (“KJ Notary,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you contact us, book an appointment, or use our website, how we use it, and the choices you have.
KJ Notary is an independent mobile notary and loan signing service operated by Katie J. Fridgen and based in Clearwater, Minnesota. By using our website or services, you agree to this Policy.
02Information we collect
Information you give us directly
- Your name, phone number, and email address.
- The service or mailing address and the location of your appointment.
- Appointment details and the type of document(s) to be notarized.
- Payment-related details you provide to arrange service.
- Anything you choose to include when you call, text, email, or book with us.
Information related to a signing
To perform a notarial act, Minnesota law requires us to verify your identity and to keep a record (a notary journal) of certain details — typically the date and time, the type of notarial act and document, the signer’s name, and how identity was verified. We do not keep copies of your private documents beyond what the law requires or what you specifically ask us to.
Information collected automatically
If you visit our website, our hosting and analytics providers may automatically collect limited technical information — such as your IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and referring links — using cookies or similar technologies. This helps keep the site working and understand how it’s used.
03How we use your information
- To schedule, confirm, and perform notary and signing services.
- To verify identity as required by law.
- To contact you about appointments — including confirmations and reminders — and to answer your questions.
- To process payments and keep ordinary business records.
- To meet legal, regulatory, and notarial record-keeping obligations.
- To maintain and improve our website and services, and to protect against fraud or misuse.
We use your information only for the purposes described here or as otherwise permitted or required by law.
04Text messaging (SMS)
If you provide your mobile number and opt in, we may send you text messages related to your service — for example, appointment confirmations, scheduling, reminders, and replies to questions you send us. Message frequency varies based on your activity and appointments.
- Consent: we text you only after you share your number and agree to be contacted, or when you text us first.
- Message & data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.
- Opt out anytime: reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at the number below.
- We do not sell or share your mobile information, SMS opt-in, or consent with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Opting in to text messaging is never required to use our services — you can always reach us by phone or email instead.
07Document confidentiality
Notarized documents often contain sensitive personal and financial information. We handle your documents with care and discretion, do not disclose their contents except as needed to perform the notarial act or as required by law, and retain only the records Minnesota law requires us to keep (such as journal entries). Our notary journal is a legal record and may be subject to inspection as permitted by law.
08Data retention
We keep your information only as long as needed for the purposes above, to run our business, and to meet legal and notarial record-keeping requirements. Notary journal records are retained for the period required by Minnesota law. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or secure it.
09Data security
We use reasonable administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to protect the information in our care. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please avoid sending sensitive information (such as full Social Security or financial account numbers) by unsecured text or email.
10Your choices & rights
You can:
- Ask what information we have about you and request a correction.
- Opt out of text messages (reply STOP) or marketing communications at any time.
- Decline to provide information, though we may then be unable to perform a requested service.
- Contact us with any privacy question or request using the details below.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable law, and we will honor those rights as required.
11Children’s privacy
Our services and website are intended for adults and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
12Third-party links
Our website may link to third-party sites (for example, an online booking or payment provider). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites; please review their policies.
13Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent version. Significant changes will be posted on this page, and your continued use of our services means you accept the updated Policy.
