Terms of Service

Last updated: June 19, 2026

Please read these terms carefully. This page is general information, not legal advice. They explain what you can expect from us and what we ask of you.

01Acceptance of these terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the website and the notary and signing services provided by KJ Notary & Loan Signing Services (“KJ Notary,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), an independent mobile notary service operated by Katie J. Fridgen in Clearwater, Minnesota.

By booking an appointment, using our services, or using this website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

02Our services

KJ Notary provides mobile notarial and signing services, which may include general notary work, loan signing services, field and property inspections, process serving, apostille assistance, estate-planning signings, and related referrals. We travel to you within our service area across central, western, and the northern lakes region of Minnesota. Availability, travel range, and specific services may vary and are confirmed when you book.

04Appointments & cancellations

Appointments can be requested by phone, text, email, or online booking, and are confirmed once we agree on a date, time, and location. Please provide accurate details about the documents and location in advance.

If you need to reschedule or cancel, let us know as early as possible. Because we travel to you, late cancellations, no-shows, or trips where a signing cannot be completed (for example, missing identification or documents) may be subject to a travel or trip fee, which we will communicate to you.

05Fees & payment

Fees are discussed and agreed before or at the time of your appointment. Minnesota law sets the maximum fee a notary may charge for performing a notarial act; any travel, convenience, after-hours, or service fees are separate from the notarial-act fee and are charged only where permitted by law. Payment is due as arranged at the time of service unless we agree otherwise. We’re happy to provide an estimate when you book.

06Your responsibilities

  • Provide valid, current, government-issued photo identification for each signer, as required by law.
  • Be physically present, mentally aware, and signing willingly and without coercion.
  • Bring the complete document(s), and do not pre-sign anything that must be signed in front of the notary.
  • Give accurate information about yourself, the documents, and the appointment location.
  • Ensure any required additional signers or witnesses are present, unless we’ve arranged otherwise.

07Text messaging terms

SMS / Text messaging

By giving us your mobile number, you agree we may text you about your service — including confirmations, scheduling, reminders, and replies to your questions. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. We do not share your SMS opt-in or consent with third parties for marketing. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

08Right to refuse service

By law, a notary must decline to perform a notarial act in certain situations — for example, if a signer cannot be properly identified, does not appear to understand the document or act, appears to be acting under duress, or if the notary believes the act may be unlawful or fraudulent. We reserve the right to refuse or stop service in these and similar circumstances, and a trip or travel fee may still apply.

09No guarantees of acceptance

We perform our services with professional care, but we do not guarantee that any third party — such as a lender, county office, court, or government authority — will accept a document, nor do we guarantee processing times for matters outside our control (such as apostille issuance by a Secretary of State). Service timelines are estimates, not promises.

10Intellectual property

The content on this website — including text, design, graphics, and logos — is owned by or licensed to KJ Notary and is protected by applicable laws. You may not copy, reproduce, or reuse it without our permission, except as allowed by law.

11Third-party services & links

Our website and services may link to or rely on third-party tools (such as booking, mapping, or payment providers). We are not responsible for third-party services, and your use of them may be subject to their own terms and policies.

12Disclaimers

Except where prohibited by law, our website and services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the website will be uninterrupted or error-free.

13Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, KJ Notary and its owner will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of our website or services. To the extent we are found liable, our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid us for the specific service giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

14Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless KJ Notary and its owner from claims, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney’s fees) arising from your misuse of our services, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of another — except to the extent caused by our own misconduct.

15Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to these Terms or our services will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Minnesota, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest will remain in effect.

16Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest version. Changes take effect when posted, and continuing to use our services means you accept the updated Terms.
